Stan,

Apparently yes (with a DVI adaptor) but Apple won't support it or guarantee
it (so they told me). That's why I bought a Formac Gallery since they
produce it in two varieties, one with DVI and one without.

Re: [Digital BW] Apple Cinema Display - Win

2003-01-31 by Sam A. McCandless

Wasn't Stan Shire interested the "old" 23-inch Apple Cinema display?
This link is to the new, $1700 20-inch Formac Gallery 2010. I don't
think it's Apple's new $1300 20-inch display either judging from the
details given about the resolutions it supports and about its DVI/ADC
connector.

Incidentally, Formac says:

>[snip] Formac gallery 2010 supports a true resolution of 1,600 by
>1,200, which is comparable to the virtual workspace of a 23î CRT.
>[snip]

I thought 1600x1200 was the resolution typically used on 21-inch, not
23-inch, CRTs, at least for image work? But I also didn't know of
23-inch CRTs (although I think I know Sony has a 24-inch CRT)?

Re: [Digital BW] Apple Cinema Display - Win

2003-01-31 by Julian Thomas

Since posting the link I've been thinking about this - I was speaking to the
formac rep in an apple dealership in London where they had both the new
apple and the formac - he told me that the new apple was a rebadge of the
new formac with a slightly different leg arrangement - but when I tried to
find the link I could find nothing on the formac site. Soooooo I could be
spouting total BS, so just ignore me... unless history proves me correct ;-)
Don't want to start more misinformation.

Thank to all for the info. I'm going to contact Formac and get info on the display and their DVI adapter. This will be for our video editing classes. I'm about ready to pop for an Artisan for myself as soon as tax refunds arrive.
I'll post any info from Formac when I talk to them.

Re: [Digital BW] Apple Cinema Display - Win

2003-02-01 by Roy Harrington <roy@harrington.com>

I have one of the Formac 2010 and it's very nice. Pricewise
it WAS a very good deal relative to the Apple Cinema screens.
Now its pretty much in the same ballpark.

The most obvious difference is that it has the traditional
aspect ratio as opposed to the Apple widescreen 23,22,20
inch models. At 1600x1200 it falls between the 23 and
the other two. Qualitywise I'd say the Formac is very similar
but I don't have both side-by-side. I believe the brightness
and contrast specs are slightly better.

For connections there are available adapters both ways
DVI to ADC and ADC to DVI, so the bases are covered.
For support, I can say Formac was very responsive to me.

Roy

I've also been using the Formac Gallery 2010 20" LCD monitor and I find it
excellent. The innards are made by Fujitsu, for the records. I much
preferred the 1600x1200 aspect ratio to the DVD-wideformat of the Apple
Cinema displays. No problems with calibration by Optical/Spyder. Much
cheaper than the Apples were; presumably that's why they've come down in
price.
