help with sepia?

2003-03-27 by fnkea

Hi everyone--
I just put the MIS VMS inkset cartridge into my 1270 and it's giving
me trouble. At first I thought it was something I was doing but now
I'm not so sure. Here is the 6 color purge pattern printed with my
sepia inks.
http://photolab.elmer.uaf.edu/tests/Purge6sepia.jpg
I looked at Paul Roark's step wedges in the Files section and his
inkset seems to be different. The magenta and yellow position inks are
not the same--my yellow is his magenta and he has a neutral in the
yellow position. I tried both Paul's and Keith's curves and the
stepwedges look pretty strange. Are there different VMS sets out there?

Kim,
If youre using the CFS system, check again that you have the correct
tube/s going from the cartridge to the correct bottles (C to C, K to
K etc.).

Kim,

With hextone printers like the 1270, the dark sepia toner should be in the
magenta position. The light toner should be in the light magenta position.

The purge pattern you posted looks like the sepia toner is in the yellow
position, with light toner in both magenta positions.

[Digital BW] Re: help with sepia?

I'm using prefilled cartridges from MIS. I just put up a scan of the
stepwedge printed with Paul's neutral curve and it looks like it
verifies what he said about sepia being in the yellow position.
http://photolab.elmer.uaf.edu/tests/vms1290n1.jpg
I opened another cartridge and it appears to have three sepia and two
neutral inks in it, same as the first one. I looked at the MIS web
site and I couldn't find any special instructions for the prefilled
carts. Do I have a bunch of bad cartridges, or is there something else
I have missed about using carts vs. a feed system for sepia?
Thanks, Kim

Kim,

Talk to MIS. It sounds like bad carts.
