After a while printing FS inks on Brightcube semi-matte (sprayed under Morrison's advise) I'm very fond of it(though bronzing is never 100% gone). Now it's almost out of stock here at home, and it looks like it's not being made anymore,so I'm looking for the closest replacement. How Epson luster compare? What about other papers? Thanks, Andr Vallejo

InkjetGoodies.com still has thousands of sheets of the Brightcube Semi-Matte paper listed as "Red Rock" Semi-Matte Should be available for quite some time. It is one of the few Brightcube papers that inkjetgoodies.com has decided to continue production of in Brightcube's absence. Andre, I'm assuming that you are using a workflow with one of the older quad ink sets? You might want to consider trying the new MIS Ultra-quad inkset with photo black with these papers. This ink set doesn't require spraying of the RC papers. I've been using a 2200 with Imageprint with Brightcube Semi-Matte, Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl, Generations Pro Photo Lustre and Epson Professional Glossy all with good success (Colorbyte has made custom profiles for all of these for both color and BW with the 2200). To get better results in hilights and shadows and broading toning options I'm switching my 1280 over to the Ultra-Quads (MIS VM 4.3 that Paul Roark has developed), driving it with the new Ink Jet Control software. This will allow me to make precisely tuned custom profiles for the papers and this ink set. Robert PS If you are looking for an glossy air-dried silver print look the Epson Pro Glossy is as close as it gets at the moment.

Greg, are you not also going to continue the Eclipse Bright White Satine? If not, can you tell us why? and what would be the closest possible paper to it, in whiteness, texture and price? Jerry Gregory Schern wrote:

Im using the FS-BW from MIS,guess its old stuff, but as I want neutral prints, not warm or cool, looks like its the best choice.Could I change the 100% black ink for the photo black only? Guess so.I just found out the Red River(or was it Red Rock...anyway...) so I'll be buying from them...InkjetGoodies.com also have lots of it too,as I was told. As it's hard to me to get paper here(I have to import everything from US,paper,ink...and importing from US isnt very popular around here this troubled days) I tend to stay with the brands I got used to BC SM and EAM. The other point is that I'm considering to buy the upcoming Canon i9100 for the possibilities that the swapping heads brings. But again,my idea was to make a trip to US after it's released, maybe June so I could buy some stuff including the printer (strange, but the air ticket is cheaper then mailing it all). The idea is on hold for the fear of flying to US this days... Strange world... Hi Richard. I use Krlyon 1305.After the prints dried for some hors,I spray two light coats, the let them dry for another few hours, spray then again, and that's it.Works well, but at certain view angles, some bronzing is impossible to avoid...but not to much. And yes,its Red Rock, not Red River...you know, rocks are in the rivers that goes by the woods, from where we get the paper...

Yes, a good point! Someone should start Red Woods Paper Company. Then we'd have it all covered. :-) Best regards, Richard mailto:richard@... Guess so. No you can't . All of the FS inks including the grays are incompatible with the glossy/semi-matte papers. You will need to change to all Ultra-Quad inks including the photo black to make the inks truly compatible with the paper. You will be much more likely to get neutral prints by using the Ultra-Quads with the Semi-Matte paper. MIS FS is very warm of neutral on the BC semi-matte. FS-N is closer to neutral on this paper...but with the ultra-quads and a driver like the ink jet control software you should be able to get something that is exactly neutral (whatever that is for you) with the BC semi-matte. Curious,I've been using the FS set in my remaining BC SM and it's printing fine, and pretty neutral(or whatever looks neutral to me...!) using those John Wool'f curves. So,guess mystery is part of the game. The real upgrade for me shall be when THAT Canon comes up,the looks (as far as I'm aware) that I'll have to change to Piezo inks,as only they announced inks for it. Regards, Andr
