re [Digital BW] Slightly OT: Any Reason Not To Buy A Mac

2003-04-08 by michael meyer

minor comment:

i have been briefly using one of the new imacs
(g4/lcd) to do some scanning. if the viewing angle
changes by even like 5 degrees the appearence of the
image changes drastically. drastically, they look like
different images. 100% different.

i have worked with one of the 22inch cinema screen
though also; it was fabulous and, sadly, not mine. my
sony trinitron that i use currently is a great
monitor. not as sexy as the cinema screen, but very
capable.

the point being this: i love my mac and you'll love
yours if you get one, but i would be wary of getting
an lcd screen without throroughly looking at its
performance as related to graphic work. i know others
disagree with this, but my recent experiences show me
that an lcd is not an lcd is not an lcd. if you catch
my drift.

just a thought.

Mark, You should LOVE a mac when you get used to it. about 90 percent of
design studios and magazines use mac.

However be sure you check out if all your scanners, printers, cd
burners, etc. that you already have will work
with system X (Jaguar). There have been a lot of little problems,
probably mostly corrected by now.

Yes, the first LCDs had a real angle problem. The large current ones are
much better. But, be SURE to
actually look at one before you buy it!!
