I went to a photo equipment shop in the weekend, the salesman there told me that the Epson 2200 will use both "black" and "light black" ink to print when the "Black Only" opiton is selected. I don't quite believe that. Does anyone here has any idea if that salesman is correct?

He's wrong. If the printer really used both inks you would get a very warm print, bordering on brown. You also would see much less dots. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim [mailto:ho_yeah@...] > Sent: 12. mai 2003 23:45 > To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [Digital BW] Epson 2200 Black Only Option use 2 inks??? > > > > I went to a photo equipment shop in the weekend, the salesman there > told me that the Epson 2200 will use both "black" and "light black" > ink to print when the "Black Only" opiton is selected. Everything I've ever read indicates he's wrong -- "black ink only" mode does not use the "light black" ink -- only the black (matte or photo). > I went to a photo equipment shop in the weekend, the salesman there > told me that the Epson 2200 will use both "black" and "light black" > ink to print when the "Black Only" opiton is selected. Jim, I've done quite a few (matte) black-only prints with my 2200 over the last couple of weeks. The level of 'remaining ink' (as shown by the Epson 'Status Monitor') has gone down only for the "black" cartridge. John

If you look at the print head pattern the black ink is black and the grey ink is that warm light brown, so I assumed that my black only prints from the 2200 use both blacks, otherwise they wouldn't have that very warm tone.... plus the fact that it's denser to my eyes than black only from any other printer I have, doesn't that indicate more than one ink being used? The dots are far less visible than BOPrinting from my 2000P. Carolyn

Didn't your parents warn you not to talk to those people? Frankly, they give me the creeps.
