Help with Epson Photo Stylus Ex

Help with Epson Photo Stylus Ex

2003-05-12 by spsguru

I just received some quadtone inks from MIS - their variable
quadtones. They allow you to print cooler tones - and I have printed
the 21 step grayscale for testing they have on site. I cannot get
rid of the cool tone - moving the sliders in color management
(yellow or magenta) does not change anything, They do not have
curves available for this printer ....

Net - I am a complete newbie at using these inks - have tried to
follow their suggested workflows (for other printers, dont have EX)
and cannot get anywhere.

Any one can help?

Thank you
Sean

Howdy Sean,

I was in the same situation when I first started using the MIS VM set
with my 2000P. I ignored all the negative talk about my printer and
tried various curve sets until I found one that produced a nice clean
21 step test.

are you trying to print greyscale or rgb?

I am surprised reducing the magenta via the slider has no effect. I
know nothing about the EX (4 or 6 color?, dye or pigment inks?), but
would suggest seeing if there is a set of curves for a similar printer
and start there. For me, it was the set for the 1290.

hope this helps,

Tom De Carlo

Tom - thanks for the help. Photo Ex is a 6 ink - the numbers onthe
cartridges are the same as for the 700.
I am not sure what I am looking for in the curves.

i am printing rgb

I suppose teh objective is to print the 21 step - see if I have 21
steps in the print - if not - tweak the curves until I do - the
question is - which curve? Do i mess with the composite only or twek
the r or g or b?

Ha!

my highly non-technical approach of going through each curve supplied
with the 1290 downloads came about precisely because I spent some time
trying to adjust a curve myself and had your exact questions..!

if others can answer this all nice and succinct for forum style
enjoyment, that would be nice... but I suspect much time spent
messing with curves is the only way I'll learn about curves.

did you get yours from here?:
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/workflow_roark.html

if so, which set did you pick?
or were you just starting from scratch!?!

yes, the goal is to print nice clean 5% steps (then move on to 1% ones!)

I created a smaller 21 step file to save my precious ink and fit about
8 to a page.

wish I had better advice!
good luck,

Tom
