Epson 220 for B&W?

Epson 220 for B&W?

2003-05-20 by ny_story2000

I am looking to do inkjet black and white and I would appreciate some
help regarding the best approach. I hear the Epson 2200 for B&W is
very good. How does it compare to the quad and hex inks out there,
from Piezography, for one.

It seems that having one printer that can do both with archival inks
would be better than having two printers with one dedicated to B&W.

Anybody try both?

Out of the box, with the stock drivers, the 2200 sucks for B+W.
Using the full inkset it gives you metamerism. Using black-only
only is an option for people with poor eyesight or bizarre tastes.

I don't know WHY this urban myth that the stock Epson 2200 is good
for black and white won't go away. It's like something from the
Night of the Living Dead - you just can't kill it.

However, with a RIP (the Epson RIP @ $200 is your cheapest option),
the 2200 does a very good job with B+W. Whether it's better than
quadtone/hextone/septone is a matter of personal taste, but at least
it gets you into the ballpark).
