If you think $38.00 is a lot of money for 500ml of coating then you better
stick with the papers that are available presently. It is going to cost you
far more then $38 to coat a properly working sheet.

I have found that most times it is not the sheet or the inks that are the
problem, but the operator. You have to take the time to test and create
profiles so the combination of the printer/ink/paper work in combination
with each other. There just are no shortcuts in this industry.

The paper manufacturers have spent 100's of thousands of dollars getting
these sheets to the market. If it were easy everyone would be making their
own paper and coatings.

It is precisely that reason that one might want to consider this route;
everyone has a different combination of ink/printer/imagery and
different preferences and goals with their work.

Sometimes it is possible to end up with a better product by hand
because you are willing to do things that commercial companies can't do
in a production type environment, either because of cost or effort or
otherwise. I know that it isn't easy and that it won't save money but
the results could be better, if only for the uniqueness.

Hi,

The coating at Lotusviewcamera is in DM (German Marks)

38 DM = 17 dollars US

so you can get 1 liter for 38 bucks.

Not so expensive after all I think

yeah, I lost track of my numbers, (I was pricing a lot of the stuff on
their site, like that nice 8x10!)

How many sheets could you coat with a liter do you think?

Hi Mike,

Obviously that would depend on paper size (in inches not size in
size) and the type of paper. I think at that price it's certainly
worth experimenting. There are tons of textured and Japanes papers
out there just waiting to be used....
