MIS Ultracrome Clones and MIS GP Archival ink.

MIS Ultracrome Clones and MIS GP Archival ink.

2003-06-02 by Mr_Misty_44

I know, I know this is a B&W forum but I know there are those here
who have been trying to print B&W on their 2200, 7600, and 9600's so
I think the question is relevant. Has anyone used the MIS Ultracrome
clones in there 2200/7600/9600 printers. If so what is your opinion.
Also, has anyone run the MIS GP Archival inks in any of the other
Epson Printers such as the 2000P, 1280, 7000,7500, etc. What do you
think. there must be thouse among you who print color as well.

Yes, I've refilled a cartridge set for my 2100 with the Ultrachrome
clones. They seem to work very well, but I mostly print BW with
ultratones so I haven't bothered to do extensive testing.

I printed the Photodisc test image on a couple of different matte
papers, and it was very similar to the Ultrachromes.

To: John H,
I have just started with MIS GP inks on an Epson 1280.The first attempt using the ICC profile suggested for this printer, ink and paper, printed with a prounounced cyan cast. I then set up my own color profile adding *20M,+20Y and came close to Epson dye based inks on lustre paper.Still experimenting

Hi Guys, I am using the GP inks in a second 1290. I had a custom
profile made by DryCreek as the canned ones were total c**p. The
results I am getting are EXCELLENT, far better than I had with plug
and play dyes, but this may be the profile which was beyond
expectations. I am using GEN4 black following my own little
disasters with the Eboni.

Good luck,

Steve.

Re: MIS Ultracrome Clones and MIS GP Archival ink.

2003-06-03 by Shilesh Jani

Hello Steve,

Glad to hear of your MIS GP/1290 sucess. I tried the inks on my 1280
without much sucess. My problem was weak reds. But.... I was using
the inexpensive scanner-based ProfilePrism to make profiles. That
may have been my problem(?). How are the reds with your DryCreek
profiles?

I am encouraged sufficiently to try a proper professionaly made
profile with this inkset.

Regards.

Shilesh

Hi Shilesh

Any thoughts on when I should expect the chromes?

What "little disaster" was that? I'm thinking about experimenting
with GP but was planning on using Eboni.

Thanks

Shailesh

I just wanted to share my experiences with Dry Creek.

I once had a profile made by Dry Creek for my 1160/Gen4 combo. It
cost $50. I wasn't happy with the reds either. They reprofiled 3
times and then concluded that I may have screwed up in my initial
printing of the test file. They offered to let me send in another
test print for profiling free of charge. Great guys to deal with. I
just never got around to it as I've just moved countries and am
reasonably satisfied with tweaking the sliders.

I think Dry Creek's site is www.drycreekphoto.com.

There is a wealth of info on colour management on the site.

Before we get our wrists slapped though, may I suggest we move this
discussion over to the archival colour list?

I have no such problems, there are out of gamut colours in extremes,
it is not a massively high gamut inkset, that said the difference
with the custom profile is enough to make me stick with the inkset, I
have not noticed a week red issue.
kind regards

Steve.
