Epson Archival Matt again!

Epson Archival Matt again!

2003-06-14 by sceptre12345

Hi,

I recently bought a pack of Epson 13x19 Archival Matt paper SO41339,
thinking a got a good deal since it's no longer available.

Well, when I openned the package I noticed that this paper was a lot
thinner than usual with the name Epson and plus large arrows printed
on the back. How cheap!!! Also, this paper when loaded with wet ink
buckles and becomes limp much the same as photocopy paper.

What kind of paper is this? Enhanced Matt rebranded as EAM or some
other cheap paper ?

Epson, if you're listening, I'm starting to hate your paper. It looks
and feels cheap, so much so that I dont want anyone to handle my
prints.

In the quad b&w printing equation, it seems that inkjet paper
technology is the lagger. Lately I've tried Ilford "Inkjet Fine Art
Paper". While I dont have a densitometer, to my eyes, the dmax on
this paper is so low, it's not even worth bothering with. To date I
must have tried a dozen paper.

I've got a good printer, an inkset that I like plus the software to
make no hassle prints. The only thing missing is real inkjet photo
paper that doesnt look cheap, doesnt flake, has a good dmax, takes
carbon ink and has realworld lightfastness qualities.

Is this asking for too much ?

Cheers,
Andre

I have a new EAM 8.5 x 11, letter-size in front of me; it is # S041341. It
is the same as Epson Enhanced Matte except that it still has the "Epson"
logo on the back.

I bought some Enhanced Matte Paper SO41341 in same size yesterday. It
has the feel and look of the old EAM but it does not have the Epson
logo on the back nor the arrows.

But I wonder what paper I was sold as old EAM, it being a lot thinner
than usual but still having the same photo qualities.

I'll write Epson about it, to see if they have anything to say.

Cheers,
Andre

--Epson Archival Matte was not found to be archival- showed signs of
yellowing after 30 yrs so they re-packaged it as "enhanced matte".
The independant company doing the tests is www.wilhelmresearch.com.

Oh, that "independent company"... :-)

PS - what's archival?
