Black PK vs. Ebony - was: Ilford Smooth Glossy & Epson UT cyan mix

Paul,
a similar question:
If I want to switch from Black PK to Ebony in my CIS on 1280 in Ultra
Tones - should I replace the
black cartridge as well or it will replace the PK by itself since the
Ebony is thicker as I understand?
I would appreciate the clarification.
Thanks,
Jack

I would not mix any inks the CIS cartridges. The mix will take a very long
time to stabilize. In the meantime you'll have, for example, a black that
will probably look streaked as the two types mix. Profiling and getting
good prints could take so much time and ink that it would be much cheaper to
just replace the cart.

Actually, for the black position, I think it makes a lot on sense to just
use carts instead of the CIS if you are going to be switching. I thought
that some had tried using a CIS with just the 5 color positions, but it
might be worth a posting to ask if anyone has tried this successfully.
