Software Sleuths, Printing off key?
2003-07-19 by Lyons Cox
Admittedly this is a color question but I ask because it makes me curious if it is happening when printing a B&W file in RGB with curves too. I've got a color image I'm printing. Developed it off the RAW file of a Canon G3 using Adobe RAW converter (ARC)...looks fine on the screen. Image is 8bit, RGB...even went so far as to assign profile to AdobeRGB98. I send it to my Epson 1280 loaded with MIS Perpetual Inks, designating the custom profile I had built & Saturation, as specified. Document in RGB. Check my printer setup box and it's as should be, NCA, with fine settings. PC, Win98, PS7 Now the image is not matching what's happening on my screen...this is singular to this image set of files (all digital shot that session). I fixed it once in the past and got good prints...the problem is I forgot how I fixed it. What I do remember is there was a sneaky thing happening with the software, that was shifting the color profile after being sent? One of those little check boxes was getting selected that I don't usually see. The color effect is going from a dark mud red to pink cast. Redeveloping the image through the ARC does not fix. Other settings will get it closer...but I'm trying to find what's over-riding my regular printer commands!!?? Realize this is off topic some, but if this is happening to a couple of color files I would suspect it would be something to watch for when converting from B&W to RGB to print when 'all else fails' Contributions welcome, will let you know if I figure it out.
