Swapping carts in a 1280

Swapping carts in a 1280

2003-07-21 by Scott Hendershot

I have a question about swapping carts in a 1280.

I would like to try using the MIS Ultratone inks in my 1280 but
would like to continue to use it for color as well.

Is it ok to pull the color cartridge out and put in a ultratone cart
and then swap back after you are done printing B&W?

My concerns are getting air in the printhead and possibly messing up
the on cart chip such that the cart becomes unuseable.

Is anyone out there doing this?

Thanks

Scott

Hey Scott,

I do this all the time with OEM and FS (vacuum filled) carts. But, a
couple of things you may want to consider:

(1) UT inks are different from VM and FS inks.
(2) It is best not to remove partially used UT (or FS, VM, etc.) inks
for reuse later. These carts do not have poppet valves in the exit
ports, so you may introduce air in the carts. But OEM inks can go in
and out any time you want. So either use up all of the UT before
removing, or toss the carts.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Shilesh
