Transition to UltraTones

Transition to UltraTones

2003-07-31 by sceptre12345

I've just installed new cartridges and CIS with UT inks in my Epson
1160. A nozzle check showed magenta was not printing along with some
gaps in the other inks position. Made 2-3 head cleaning cyles without
success, so I waited some 24 hours.

After 24 hours, nozzle check showed magenta still not printing, so I
just raised the two ink cartridges some 1/8 inch and re-seated them
firmly. A nozzle check confirmed magenta was printing and two head
cleaning cycles later everything was printing smoothly.

Afterwards, I bring in an image on the screen, do some basic
ajustments and applied Paul's UT11-N1 curve. The image then took a
high contrast look without any mid-tones. But much to my amazement,
the image was printed exactly as it appeared on the screen.

I then made another print without the UT curves being applied, and
bingo, a nice print!!!

As recommended by Paul, I used "No Color Adjustment" (in the driver
color management box) and Adobe RGB (1998) (Edit, Color Settings).

Now how do I get the UT curves to work ?
Cheers,
Andre

The grayscale image needs to be converted to RGB before printing with
the UT curves!!!
Thanks Paul,

Andre
