I have just had delivery of a CIS with UT to work on my 1270. I am using the NCA curves from the inksupply.com website and find the best result with the nc1. curve. Is this the best set of curves to use on a PC and 1270 or are there others that would be more suitable? Thanks Gareth

Gareth, I think the nc1 curves are for the VM inks right? I have a 1280 and really like the Paul Roark UT80 curves which are for the UT inks. I thought they were in the files section under files>inksets>MIS>MIS Ultra Tone Inks but I can't seem open them now. They don't appear to be there. If you're interested email me off list and I'd be glad to send them to you. I really like them. Very smooth and great shadow detail. UK or US? If it's hot you must be in the UK. I hear it's been a little warm. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area so I got my UT ink from MIS here in the US. Good luck! Tom

The 870/1270 vm "NCA" curves are probably the best curves for the UT inkset and the 1270. I have not made UT-specific curves for the 1270. The old vm and new UT inksets use the same densities. I found on my 1160 the old curves worked quite well. The UT inkset was designed so that the "nc" curve would produce a neutral print with a slight "selenium" bias. Let us know what curves work the best on the 1270. There are older 1270 curves out there also. I have not heard whether the 1280 UT curves work on the 1270. In general, the curves only work well with the driver they were designed for. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com

Funny enough this is what I have found; the old NCA curves work better than the UT curves. I get quite alot of posterization when using the UT80 curves whereas they are pretty clean using the NCA curves. I have also found the UT curves make the deep shadows too light meaning that they are light grey rather than dark grey/black. I will keep you posted as I get more results. However, the best thing about the UT inks is the (almost) lack of metarism. I have done some test prints on Fuji Multijet and they are very good, not like the severe bronzing that I got when using the Permajet VT Blax pigment inks. Thanks for the advice, Gareth --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@v...> wrote: > Gareth, > > >I have just had delivery of a CIS with UT to work on my 1270.
