Anybody using MIS VM Quadtone on a Epson 1200??

2003-09-03 by cengell

I was thinking of using my Epson 1200 and getting the MIS VM Quadtone
inks, and using Paul Roark's curves..

Ant ideas or help, I don't want the Sepia tone just the regular VM
Quadtone..

Thanks for you ideas and help..

I'm doing exactly that right now. I put my first set of inks in on Saturday
and have been printing happily with no problems and beautiful prints since
then. I've tried a variety of papers and they all look great with Roarks
curves. I'm using EEM as sort of a proofing paper until I get the print I
want then using archival, heavier (more expensive!) papers for final prints
and they're spot on. My monitor and workflow are calibrated and I'm finding
that I need to keep the very low black tones 98-100% and make the print
contrastier on my screen than I would normally choose to insure nice rich
prints with deep blacks. I prefer the medium warm curve. with +10 on the
Magenta slider in the printer dialog box. Read all workflow directions
carefully and your results should be beautiful.
I've had to clean the nozzles a couple of times but I understand that's sort
of the way it is.
I'm looking into the refill kits now for future ink purchasing.
Good luck.

I have put the MIS Ultratones in my 1200, using Pual's curves, and
have found that the combination makes for wonderful prints. I opted
for the Eboni black, and print on eclipse soft white. The blacks are
very deep, and rich.I do like the option of being able to go from
warm to cold tones, but admit that the neutral cool is my favorite.
Alas, the eclipse is no longer available, but I managed to grab a few
boxes of the stuff before it was all gone. Am eager to try the Moab
line, as it has been touted to be the replacement for eclipse. I sent
for a sample pack to compare against the eclipse, but haven't done so
yet. Does anyone have any experiences with it yet that they wish to
convey upon us?

I use that very combination but with the continuous inking system not carts.
I have been very happy with the results on Somerset Enhanced Velvet and
Lyson Standard Art - the result on EAM are OK but lack a good black. However
I would say that the printer clogs on the black only if left to sit for a
couple of days. I feel I've used more ink cleaning the print heads as I have
done in printing.
