Has anyone discovered a howto, or any published information about how to get Linux and QTR working? I know Linux is supposed to be usable with QTR, but the nice documentation on the QTR web page appears primarily for MAC users, and there definately seems to be some differences with the way gimp-print is configured in Linux. I am familiar with Linux, but just a basic, cut and dry list of steps of what to do would be an enormous help. Anyone?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Actually, the instructions Roy provides work pretty well with the below modifications. What is more important is that you have both Cups and Samba installed and operational before you move on to QTR. Samba is optional, but I found it made my workflow a lot smoother. Once you are printing test pages via CUPS, you can run Roy's make and install scripts, then move on to installing curves. Notes: - - Look at the curve files. Make sure your printer names are correct. - - Any time the documentation says to 'drag and drop' you need to manually enter the complete path to the file you were supposed to drag and drop. - - There is more documentation in the source directory, which is a little more helpful than whats on the site. It's unfortunately in RTF format, so you'll need to find an RTF viewer. I use a program called Ted. - - Paper source needs to be automatic, not roll or sheet. Not sure why. I still get disturbing I/O errors in my log when I print, but for the most part it prints with the bundled curves on my 2200 ok. I'm moving on to a more Roark like workflow for now, because I couldn't find any curves for the UT inkset in a 2200, and I'm not sure how to make one. Any other Linux users wanna contribute points I missed? Ranyart wrote: |Has anyone discovered a howto, or any published information |about how to get Linux and QTR working? Justin, There are some QTR 2200 UT curves on my filesharing site in the quadtonerip folder: http://homepage.mac.com/scho/FileSharing2.html Carl

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Carl, what paper/black ink combo did you use for these curves? I've got the 2200/UT inkset with photo black, and it doesn't seem to be working well on semi-gloss paper. I'll try again with EEM, but I'm not sure which black ink to get for that. I've also had problems with the paper cutter on my 2200 with QTR. It works fine when I print from windows through the Epson driver. It just won't cut when I print from QTR. Below is the info form the read-me file that was included with the profiles: QuadToneRIP 2.0(beta 8) Profiles for the Epson 2200 with MIS Ultratone Inks These profiles were made for printing with the Epson 2200 on Epson Enhanced Matte paper (EEM) using the MIS Ultratone (UT) Inkset. The cartridge ink positions for the Ultratone inks in the Epson 2200 are as follows: K - UT Photo K (not used for these profiles) LK - UT Eboni Matte Black C - UT Dark Gray (75% K) LC - UT Medium Gray (50% K) M - UT Blue Toner LM - UT Sepia Toner Y - UT Light Gray (25% K) After loading the above inks do nozzle checks and cleaning cycles as necessary and also make purge prints as required to clear the residual color inks (particularly the Y position light gray). There are four linearized profiles: 1. 2200-UT-MK_warm 2. 2200-UT-MK_cool 3. 2200-UT-MK_neutral 4. 2200-UT-MK_sepia The profiles may be used alone or any two may be blended in the desired proportions using the blender feature in the QTR print driver. Justin,
I don't know if this will solve your curve issues but ...
I think I've run across the cause of some mac/linux differences. I've been
tweaking the various dot size weightings and it looks like I missed one
for the Linux source distribution. This is the current situation:
Under the RasterSrc folder in the file print-escp2-data.c there's the section
for the 2200:
/***************************************************************\
* *
* ULTRACHROME (2100/2200, 7600, 9600) *
* *
\***************************************************************/
static const stp_simple_dither_range_t standard_4pl_pigment_dither_ranges[] =
{
{ 0.661, 0x1, 0, 2 },
{ 1.00, 0x2, 0, 3 }
};
DECLARE_INK(standard_4pl_pigment, 1.0);
------------
Well the 0.661 should be changed to 0.561 -- I did this for the Mac but inadvertently
missed moving the change into the Linux source. This should only effect printing
at 1440x720.
As far as the cutter is concerned I not sure that gimp-print supports that.
