Andre,

Thanks for the link! Lots of good info in there. This really looks like a
great upgrade for the type of editing we are doing. Much more significant
than PS7. I like the added ability to place the Healing Brush changes on a
separate layer.

What may be a problem for some are the OS requirements. OSX for Mac users
and Win 2000 or XP for those on the PC. This will increase the cost and
hassle for those who have not upgraded yet.

I noticed that amazon.com expects PS-CS to be released October 24th so
hopefully we will have access to this new version very soon. The upgrade
price is $170.

How recent a version must you have already installed (or you
simply have to have the code number ?) in order to be able to
use the "upgrade" to the new version ?

Thanks, John

I upgraded from 4 to 7 without penalty or problem.

John,

From the Adobe Store:

"Preorder Adobe Photoshop CS Upgrade
To install upgrade successfully, you will need a serial number and a
previous version of this product on the same platform as this purchase.
Upgrade does not apply to Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Limited Editon, or
PhotoDeluxe owners."

Sounds like you can upgrade from any version if you have the serial number.

Unfortunately from the same page:

"Adobe Photoshop CS is expected to ship by the end of November 2003. "

So I guess we get to wait awhile but it would be a nice Xmas present.

Call me a wimp, but I never upgrade Photoshop until after I get the
updated edition of the "Real World Photoshop" book. Even then I'd
wait if necessary for Adobe's first bug fix, "Photoshop CS.0.1" I
guess. Actually, being a Mac person, I might in this case also wait
until Apple can release the OS X operating system being called
"Panther" and bug-fix it. Everything seems to me to go better when
all the parts and pieces are from the same developmental generation.

Not that I know all this won't happen before Christmas. But I'm
worrying about how best to straddle the gap between my scanners and
OS X and the gap between OS X and the printers and still have money
for Christmas.

I'm thinking about using my old Mac and OS 9.1 for scanning and
printing and getting a new one for Photoshop CS. But, while the new,
64-bit Mac desktops are shipping, 64-bit notebooks are not. And my
impression is that OS 10 or "X" is quite a ways away from catching up
with the new family of 64-bit chips already in the newest Mac
desktops.

So I'm trying not to get too eager to have PSCS. Especially since
Adobe seems more preoccupied with developing and promoting their CS
bundle than with Photoshop, InDesign, etc. individually. Bah, humbug!

They want to make as much money as possible. They don't care about the
individual programs, all of which have saturated their markets, anyway
(except InDesign, which still trails against XPress, no doubt because of
software bloat).

Windows retail versions of Photoshop CS will require product
activation!!!

Dont forget to add the cutoff portion of this last link for it to
work.

I knew the link would be cutoff but this time it runs into some
advertisement and there are missing caracters.

So here's the link again, but manually cutoff:
