feeding problems 2200

2003-09-30 by mikenmeyer

not a specific black and white question, but i figured the group would be able
to help me out.

i am printing on photo rag (196gsm super B) with an epson 2200, regular
epson ink cartridges and ink. the printer was purchased in august and has
been through a modest printing load, but certainly not a huge amount of prints
or anything taxing.

yesterday the printer started to fail to load sheets of paper through, and today
has been more finicky. it is leaving two marks on the edge of the paper that
loads through, even when it doesn't load the paper. i assume that the loading
rollers are not grabbing the paper, either because they or the paper is getting
too "polished." does ths seam reasonable?

i have already made a call to epson service, which was nearly worthless, and
they are sending out a replacement. that is good i suppose.

any hints for keeping this from happening again?

thanks,
mike meyer

Did yours come with a little sponge on a stick? (kinda like Roman toilet
paper....!)

The paper feed wheels get coated with the loose bits of surface coating from
the photo rag after a while and become smooth and don't grip anymore.

I put a bit of cleaner on the sponge and run some paper feed cycles while
the sponge sits against the feed wheels. (I think that's what the sponge is
for anyway - if not, it gets used for that now...!)

Re: [Digital BW] feeding problems 2200

I have always had this problem on my 2200 after using Hahnemuhle or
Somerset papers for awhile...so I use manual feed. I've found if I use
Epson papers for a bit the problem temporarily goes away.

Mike - you might want to try cutting a piece of 1/4" fomecor or similar
board to the exact size of the paper you're trying to print on. Put this
board in the paper feed tray, and put only one sheet at a time of the
PhotoRag paper on top of that. It works for me...

Since I've been on this forum (mostly lurking)the timing has been
amazing. Yesterday I started printing on PhotoRag 308 for the first
time. After about 12 prints the paper wouldn't load, a lot of
slippage and 2200 whining noises. On my next digest delivery you all
solved my problem. I didn't get (or, more likely, lost) the sponge
on a stick so I haven't tried that, but 2 sheets of EEM set the
rollers right. I guess this must be a case of the PR flaking problem
that Paul wrote about a few months ago, even though I have yet to
see any loss of printed area.

Once again thank you all for sharing these solutions. Jim Weekes
