OT - Scanner for contact sheets?

OT - Scanner for contact sheets?

2003-10-10 by Richard Cooke

Hi All,

This might be a bit off topic but what do scanners do people use for
scanning a sheet of 35mm negatives to make a contact sheet?

I think my Umax 1220S has bitten the dust. The sensor bar moves to
the end of it's travel and tries to keep going. The toothed belt
slips on the pulley and it makes quite the loaud clunking sound.

I've started to look around for flatbeds that can take a transparency
lid. I've got a Minolta Multi Pro for the final film scan, I'd just
like to be able to make contact sheets.

Thanks,

Richard

If you're looking for a low cost flatbed solution, here's a link that

RE: [Digital BW] OT - Scanner for contact sheets?

Hi Richard,

I use a tabloid sized scanner, an Epson 836XL. My negatives are in
"PrintFile" sleeves, and I lay them on the glass, with a sheet of glass over
the printfile sleeve, and scan them as transparencies. It makes great
contact sheets.

Austin

HI Richard;

I use an Epson Expression 1600 for contacts and 4x5. It has a decent
set of neg carriers and will do a reasonable job of film down to
6x7, though the file size is too small for anything much over letter-
sized prints. The current model is the 1680, you might be able to
find either on E-bay at a reasonable price. New price for either
with a trnsp. scanner lid is around $1000.00.
