New CFS 1160 UT question (pre-vacuumed carts?)...

2003-10-17 by Jim Batzer

I just received a CFS with UT inks from MIS. I read the instructions
and thought I understood what needed to be done. When I looked at
the CFS carts they sent me, however, I notice that they appear to be
full of ink. The labels say "ARC-S020089-QUT MIS Ultratone pigment 3
color" and "ARC-S020108-UTK MIS Ultratone pigment Black". The tubes
have some ink in them, near the carts and the ends of the tubes
(that will go in the bottles) are folded over and clipped...

My question is this: Do I still need to vacuum fill these carts as
described in the instructions? Is there already a vacuum in these
carts (thus the clipped-off ends)? It seems that if I try to pull a
vacuum on these (already full?) carts that I'll just be sucking out
the ink... I've called MIS twice and left messages and haven't
gotten a reply. I've also emailed them twice...

Any advice?

Thanks,

Jim Batzer

Jim:

There is no vacuum -- the carts have been filled and the pressure
inside the carts is at atmospheric. The tubes are clipped off to
keep the ink from running out. All you need to do is install the
carts and tubing clips and insert the tubes into the bottles and
adjust the tubing lengths as necessary. As the ink in the carts
starts to go down, it will create a tiny vacuum and pull the ink
from the bottles as well as any air bubbles in the lines.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff,

Is this the case even if there's no ink in the tubing? The ink will
be pulled in and there shouldn't be problems with air bubbles?

Thanks again,

Jim Batzer
