I think that one might be better off using many adjustment layers instead of many single adjustments (talking 8 bit files here). By using adjustment layers only one render will take place instead of multiple rerendering of the image. What I don't know for sure is whether the final result will be different using the two techniques. I expect a better result from the multiple adjustment layer approach. If you are just using one adjustment layer, I don't believe there would be any advantage in that approach vs. one curves correction.
