Digital BW, The Print

I wish to use my 1280 and Paint Shop Pro 8.0 to do black & white printing. Does anyone know what inks are compatible and what additional software I will need?

Hi Ivan-

I'm not really familiar with PS 8, but the earlier versions seemed to 
do most or all of what you need.

First of all, you need to settle on a preferred method of converting 
to BW. Volumes are written on this and available across the internet 
and in books...pick any one to start your printing process and then 
learn varatitions from there...probably there is a "convert to 
grayscale" option in PS. (won't be the absolute best way to do it, 
but will get you started).

Next you have to decide on what ink method you will use. there are 
basically 3 choices: Black ink only (not very popular since it is 
less able to translate tones), third party black inks (most of the 
discussion is among folks using 3p inks like those from MIS) or try 
getting a perfect profile and using the Epson inks to make BW (very 
unlikely and almost impossible).

there are a lot of other choices you have to make such as cartridges 
or continuous ink, etc but you should just try some cartridges first 
and try a couple of inks to see what you like. Go to the MIS, 
Piezography, Lyson, Inkjetgoodies, InkjetArt and see what they have 
to offer...you can learn a lot looking at the vendor sites and then 
you might come back here with a more precise question or two...but 
mainly just try out one or two options first...it isn't nearly as 
hard as it sounds...jump in.
