Epson Stylus 4000

Epson Stylus 4000

2003-11-09 by wilfredm71047

Had almost made up my mind to purchase the 7600, and now the 4000
shows up. Very tempting, as I only need 16 X 20 output. However I am
looking for others ideas as why or why not go with the 7600. One
thing I found very different in the specifications was that the 4000
printhead life is 8.4 billion shots per nozzle. The 7600 printhead
life is 28 billion shots per nozzle. While I realize that numbers in
the billions are extremly vast who knows how many times a nozzle
fires in the course of say a 16 x 20 print. The difference, at any
rate, represents a very much shorter nozzle life compaired to the
7600.

Also I have heard it both ways, "there is a stand available for the
4000 and their is not a stand available". Anyone know for sure.

Inkjetart advertises a stand for the 4000, priced at $399:

Reasons I would buy a 4000

1. Prints much faster
2. Lets you switch between glossy and matte papers automatically.
3. Has a paper tray for printing more than one sheet at a time.

Reasons I would buy a 7600

1. Lots of third party solutions already exist, if you plan to use other
inks and software you won't have to wait.
2. A wide selection roll papers are already available and are usually less
expensive than sheets.
3. There is no such thing as too big ;)

Any one know if this printer is actually shipping yet? I see it on a lot of
sites but non-seem to say if they actually have shipped any.

Regards,

David.

David,
I communicated with Epson Friday and they said that
they are really behind the demand for the 4000 and are
shipping only to specific vendors who carry their
whole line. They said requests from other vendors
would not be satisfied at this time. The rumor at
Epson is that you can figure another three or four
months before you can order a 4000 for yourself. So,
it looks like July-August at the earliest. I wouldn't
have a major cariac arrest if was September-October.
