My thoughts go out to those people in Afghanistan who are hungry and
instead of receiving food get American bombs.

Jo,
As we speak we (Americans) are dropping food to the Afghanistanis. I
believe that is the reason for this wave of bombings, to take out their air
defenses so we CAN drop food.

This is REALLY REALLY offensive...and that was not my first choice of words.

I believe the intent of this list is other than to promote a political
agenda.

The United States leads the world in humanitarian aid to the Afghan people
with contributions exceeding $100 million in 2000.

U.S. humanitarian assistance to Afghans totals about $124 million so far
this fiscal year. (2001)

"As we strike military targets, we will also drop food, medicine and
supplies to the starving and suffering men, women and children of
Afghanistan," Bush said. "The United States of America is a friend to the

If you are really listening, you will know that those who are making
bombs are getting bombed. Those who are hungry are getting food.

The forum is "Digital BW". That does not entail ANY political agenda as far
as I know of, and is not why I joined this group. I am sure many others
feel the same way. If they don't, I am in the wrong place.

> (exactly how do you do that, Austin),

Quite simply. Exactly as it is done on other lists. The list owners state
that these type(s) of posts aren't in line with the agenda of the news
group, and people can either be adult enough to obey the rules, or the list
owner can terminate the offending subscriber (typically after a warning).

Wow... I apologize. I guess I was the offending party because I
posted that first off-topic post this morning, just before the first
bomb. I think maybe I did panic a bit about noon today, and after
all those posts that united us about gallery foolishness last
night, I lost my head and started caring about people on this list.
Sorry.

Anyway, I'll assume that Martin is glued to the TV, so maybe
since I started it, I'll try to end it.

Please... let's get back to Digital Black-and-White issues.

If you still feel strongly, maybe head on over the CNN or MSNBC
boards.

Hi Austin-

I just wish you were as ready to jump on someone who insults a longtime
member of the list as you were to jump on our foreign friend.

The world is on edge. Please do not stop caring about people on this list...
that is what makes this list so special compared to so many others.

That's just it though... we do not have a comraderie with people on the CNN
or MSNBC lists. This is a world horror that affects us all in some way... of
course it will bring pause to the daily doings. But it should not come to
insults or anger, that only fuels the horror.

Carolyn
Momma always taught me... "never talk about politics or religion." Of course
I do anyway, but try to do so with acceptance and respect.

Thank you Tina.

If you have time, this may be of interest... out of date but very relevant
in my opinion.

Please don't apologize, I saw your post before turning on the televion. It was my first news.
Seems to me your head was in exactly the right place, and thank you.

No need to apologize, Mark. Personally, I did not find any of the "War
Preparation (Stay in Touch) messages at all out of place, and thought they
were rather kind. It was the initial "War" post and some of the follow up
comments very offensive. When the discussion turns from genuine concern (to
seemingly insults), is where I draw the line.

Bill,

I have no idea what you are talking about. I didn't see any post from
anyone who insulted a longtime member of the list, and even if I had, I'd
assume the person was able to fend for them selves.

As far as "our foreign friend", I don't care if the person was "foreign" or
not, I make no distinction. I stated my opinion to his comment, that's it.
Am I NOT entitled to state my opinion?

I really don't want to clutter the list with this. As has been said, this
list, and probably any others, that discussions stray from the stated topic
to heated political insults, will not last long...most people are here NOT
to discuss politics, but to get away from that very subject.

There are discussion lists for that very subject. I'm sure they'd get upset
if we all went there and tried to discuss digital B&W ;-)
