Help! How to do Black Only on 2200?

Help! How to do Black Only on 2200?

2003-11-17 by Don

Thought I would try to do a BO print or two as I have seen mentioned here.
However, when I click the box for Black in the Epson driver on my 2200, I receive a
warning message saying that is not advisable for photo type printing, only for text.

Should I ignore this message and proceed? Is there something else I need to click
first? I am using at this time EEM paper and that is selected.

thanks for any help.

Do you have the Matte ink in the printer? Select your paper type.
Click on black only and then select custom. Untick high speed and
select 2880 dpi.

That should be all there is to it. Best of luck!

I have been trying this method for some time and am really pleased
with the results. The tone of the Epson Matte Black is a little
warm, similar to Agfa Record Rapid! I am going to try MIS Ebony Black
to see if that is a little more neutral as per Clayton's instructions.

Cheers

Martin

Try QuadTone RIP (see attached). It's free . Printing "B&W" on my
Epson looks fairly good with the Epson OEM ink. Using QuadTone with the
same inks removes ALL color traces. MIS ( I believe) has also come out
with a graded black inkset for use with this software.

QuadTone only works on Linux and Mac. Does there exist a Windows
version, or does anyone know of a free or inexpensive (Imageprint is
supposed to be good, but for a hobbyist like myself it is way too
expensive) rip that produces colorcastfree prints on an epson 2200 ?

Thanks

Piet

I just saw a new set of b&w prints from a 2200 + imageprint... gawd
are they great! wish I had an extra $1000 burning a hole in my
pocket:(

Been finding that the new Roark UT curves posterize differently than
the old VM curves... seems like you need both...

Thanks Martin. Yep I've got the matte black. I'll do like you say
and see what happens.

You know, I've downloaded all the QTR stuff (ghost script and all)
and just haven't worked up the courage to install it yet.... I'll
have to give it a go.
