QTR 2 and Samba?

QTR 2 and Samba?

2003-11-18 by Editor P.O.V. Image Service

Anyone using QTR2 and sending the output to a Windows print server via
Samba on EITHER OS X or RedHat Linux?

Two quick comments for you, Keith. I'm a recent convert to
QTR, running a dedicated Redhat 9 installation on a separate
box only for that purpose. Epson 2200 connected to the Linux box.

(1) I haven't tried doing what you're asking about here;
I learned just enough to get RH9 up and cooking without trying
anything fancy. So I copy a tif image into a shared folder
between my pc/linux boxes and print from the linux command line.
If what you suggest is possible, it would be a very nice
compromise, and I'd switch to such a setup so I could use the
standard Windows dialogs to check ink levels.

(2) I had no problems using the CUPS/GIMP packages as installed
by Redhat. Another poster suggested that one should download
them separately, but I haven't seen any need for that.

yes, sort of. i can access the printers on my windows server just fine, and
can send the qtr output to them, but i didn't mess with it long enough to
get good qtr output. if you need to know how to print remotely from linux
to winows, i can help if that's what you need.

Yes, I tried doing exactly that, and it worked fine. I'm on holiday in
spain now, sitting in a internet caf\ufffd, so I don\ufffdt remember the exact
setup, but it involved installing a driver in windows to share the printer
over TCP/IP and requesting the IP adress of the print server as an LPR
port in CUPS... Or something like that... I'll see if I can find the exact
details when I\ufffdm back home.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
