switching pk to mk under osx?

2003-12-24 by dinolini

Hi,
I've been lurking for a while & appreciate all the advice & help on this list.. I need a
question answered-searched the archives but couldn't find the answer.I'm sure it's
been discussed ad nauseum........

what needs to be done to switch back & forth between Photo & Matte Black under Mac
OSX?.I've heard it said that you need to delete, then re-install the driver? everytime?
seems extreme.....as it is,I get a "printer stopped" error msg. upon switching.Re-
booting the Mac & turning the printer on/off doesn't seem to get it.

Thanks in advance for a solution!

and everyone have a *great holiday*

With the latest driver you should simply be able to turn off the printer,
swap the cartridge and turn the printer on again. In fact I don¹t think you
even need to turn the printer on and off. I have no problems swapping the
cartridge this way.

It's no big deal. First swap the carts, leaving the printer turned on
and connected. Then open the "Printer Setup Utility" (in Panther,
"Print Center" in OS X 10.2.x). Select "Show Printer List" from the
View Menu if the list isn't visible, and select the 2200. Click the
"Delete" button and then the "Add" button. Click the 2200, and select
the feature set you want from the pop-up menu (Standard, Minimize
Margins, Roll Paper etc. or All). If Photoshop has been running in the
background you'll have to quit and re-launch it to see the profiles for
the new ink.

Is that in Mac OS X? Doesn't work for me in Panther. And how do you
swap carts with the printer turned off?

Sorry. I swap the cartridge with the printer on and if I have any issues I
simply turn the printer off/on. I am using Panther. Nohastle. You may need
to exit and reenter PS to see the correct profiles

Really? Unless I go through the delete/add routine in the Printer Setup
Utility, Photoshop (or any other program except the Epson printer
utility) fails to recognize that I've swapped inks. I'm using the
Firewire connection (G5, Panther 10.3.2), Epson driver v. 1.63

I am using Panther, USB and the driver from

http://www.epson.co.uk/support/download/index.htm

Which has a version of 1.6b if I recall correctly. FYI, a product called
Print Setup Repair is invaluable if you are having printer issues. I must
admit I do not do the swap that often but last weekend it worked fine. I
always do the swap without PS running. I have found that you need to
relaunch PS for it to recognise the right profiles. Maybe I am just
lucky....

Thanks Steve. 1.6b is for the 2100 (i.e. UK/European model). I wonder
if it would work on the 2200, but since the Print Setup Utility/Print
Center routine is so simple, I think I'll not fix what's not broken. It
could also be the USB vs. Firewire.

I've found that most printing problems can be solved by turning on and
off Printer Sharing in the Preferences Panel - one less thing to
download - though I've heard that Print Setup Repair can be a
lifesaver.
