QTR Linux
2004-01-13 by Roger L Sopher
I have tried a couple of newer red hat based distros as bases for the new beta-9 version of QTR. Both Fedora (nee Red Hat) and SuSE 9.0 work well. Both are easy installs and suitable for a Linux newbie. There are a couple of potential glitches that one should be aware of. If one uses webmin 1.21 to load the QTR driver you should know that the printer module in webmin needs to be updated before doing so. That is easily done through webmin configuration. The second is that qtcups is no longer provided or supported so a new print routine is needed. I have a modification of Dave Wroblewski's qtr that seems to work well and when it has been tested a bit more I will send it to Martin for inclusion in the QTR - Linux files in the group web site. At this point it is still a 2 step process with the image editing done in Windows and printing from Linux. More an inconvenience than anything else. One would hope that eventually the folks that are responsible for the Gimp and the gimp-print plug-in will update those so that one could print directly from the Gimp using QTR. That would make Linux a great platform for the whole thing. Roger Roger L Sopher rlsopher@... http:\\deCorrales.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
