MIS UT2 Inks Great! - Goodbye Piezography

MIS UT2 Inks Great! - Goodbye Piezography

2004-01-14 by Joe

Just a general note to the forum. I have been struggling with the
Piezography system for over a month with terrible results. I had
reverted to black only printing with very nice results, however I
still wanted to try and get the black and white inksets to work. I
broke down and purchased a set of MIS UT2 inks. I mostly use matt
paper so I got the eboni black. I installed the inks, ran my nozzle
check and all was ok. I used the workflow that Rourke has on his
site to set the epson driver. Much to my wonderful surprise my
photos printed beautifully. I did have to boost the contrast some
and the blacks are not as intense as black only, but I have to say
the prints look great. So Mr. Cone if you are reading this I am
putting your piezography system to bed for now. This is definately
the way I am going.

Sorry you had such trouble.

Since all anyone ever seems to post are problems, I thought I should
show the other side of the coin. I was one of the first people to get
Piezography running on an Epson 7600. I flushed the UCs out, filled my
own carts since Cone didn't have them pre-filled yet, installed them,
and it ran beautifully. I've been getting beautiful prints ever since.

I'm with you on one point though - this stuff should sure be easier. Way
too many people have way too many problems. Hopefully as the B&W segment
of the market matures, the number of problems will decrease and the
quality of service will increase. Hopefully.

Glad to hear it. I ordered my UT-2 inks on Jan 6 and am eagerly waiting
their arrival.

I too found that I needed to add contrast to my images when using the
original UT inks and Roark's workflow.

+14 seemed to do the trick, although I only tested it with 2 images
before running out of ink.

I imagine the amount could vary depending on the image, but it'd be nice
to be able to create a photoshop action that automatically applies the
contrast just prior to applying a Roark curve.
