Digital BW, The Print

Is there a way to create realistic looking fog in PS or with a third party 
filter?  I have tried filling a layer with white, lowering opacity, adding 
noise, and slight variations of that method.  All look pretty unrealistic.

Dear Helene.

Here's a simple method.
Create a new layer, select the graduation tool and on the gradient 
option pull down menu, select foreground to transparent, making sure 
the foreground is selected as white. Now, run the graduation tool/ 
line from the top of the image down. This will give you a two 
dimensional fog from foreground to rear. If you are fogging a 
landscape, for example and you have trees, use the erasor with a bit 
of opacity to selectively  clear the image on those details to 
similate distance in the fog. Works really well.

I'm looking for software, or tutorials, for adding wisps of fog to a 
photo.  I'm looking for realistic looking fog for ocean views and 
landscapes.  (Photoshop 7 in use).  Thanks in advance from Norm.
