Premier Premium Matte new coating? (was RE:3000 and dmax)

Premier Premium Matte new coating? (was RE:3000 and dmax)

2004-01-17 by Carl Schofield

Paul,

I just received a new batch of Premier Premium Matte (13x19 and 8.5x11)
from Photowarehouse
and the 13x19 paper seems to be quite different from both the older
8.5x11 stuff I already had and the new batch of 8.5x11, which appears
to be same as the old batch. There is a slight, but noticeable
difference in surface roughness or texture on the two
sides of the 8.5x11 paper, but the new 13x19 paper is completely, super
smooth on both
sides. Paper white for both measured about 0.05, but dmax readings
were quite different. The new batch of 8.5x11 paper measured 1.72 (my
old 8.5x11 was 1.69) with Eboni (printed BO) and the 13x19 was 1.64,
printed the same way. There are no batch numbers on the packages and
all are labeled as Premier Premium Matte 210 gms. I don't if any
represent the "new" coating, but there are some definite differences
between the 8.5x11 and 13x19 inch sizes.

Carl,

They warned me there would be "minor" changes in the Premier Matte. Having
different papers for different sizes, however, sounds like a confusing mess.

I have not received any of the new paper. I'll make a note to call them
Monday.
