Epson 825

New to inkjet printing. Trying to recapture the fun of the wet darkroom and print b&w. Using Epson 825, epson inks and HW Matte paper. Can't get rid of the green color cast in the mid tones. I'm getting rich blacks in the shadows. Also, the highlights tend to go magenta or slightly blue. Would having a specific profile written for my printer, ink and paper help in b &w? I get great color. Does anyone have the ability to devise specific profiles? The BO option gives me more grain. I want razor-sharp, smooth-toned b&w. I'm blindly fooling around with quadtones and transfer curves, and not knowing what I'm actually changing. Basically, I'm fooling around with the cyan, magenta and yellow sliders in the 825's advanced custom color settings. Would adding color balance and hue/saturation layers be too complicated for me at this stage and would they have any effect given my printer controls? Cheers, George
