I have an Epson 200oP and want to start printing quad-tone B&W. My quandry is which system too go with and should I stick with the 2000P or purchase a 1280 or other printer. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

I'm on my second 2000P for B/W... I use MIS hextone inks, FS (no curves needed!!!) and VM (I use Paul Roark's curves for the mac version of the 1290). I buy empty 1290 cartridges and fill them myself. I save the chips from the 2000P OEM color carts, reset them with a chip resetter, and put them on the hand-filled ones. I get about 24 Letter size (12-15 Super A3) prints per cart. hope that helps..! Tom --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "ducatilarry" <lehuhn@h...> wrote:

I have gotten outstanding results with the 2000P. I also think it may be a bit less prone to clog as it was designed for pigment inks.. Look through the old messages on this Forum for information. I use the MIS FSE inkset with Generations4 black. I've been meaning to try this for quite a while. Can I get some more detail on this? 1) On inkjetart.com, I don't see any reference to FS, VM, etc. They don't seem to mention any choice of variations just the six densities. What am I missing? 2) Where do you get the chip resetter? 3) What kind of syringe do you need to load the carts? Do you have to clean it between loading each shade? 4) Is there a trick to changing chips, or do they just pop in and out? 5) Anything else non-obvious about doing this? -- Ciao, Paul D. howdy Paul! > 1) On inkjetart.com, I don't see any reference to FS, VM, etc. They don't > seem to mention any choice of variations just the six densities. What am I > missing? I shop at MIS, inksupply.com. inks are here: http://inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/quadinks.html for FS (for EPSON DRIVER!!!): MIS FULL SPECTRUM HEXTONES - 6 Color Printers with Epson driver ONLY. for VM: MIS VARIABLE MIX HEXTONES - 6 Color Printers with Epson driver. my favorite combination is the "MIS ULTRATONE B&W" in the C,LC,and Y positions, and the VM inks in the M and LM positions. I'd love to see other 2000P users list thier favorite inks..? > 2) Where do you get the chip resetter? also from MIS, but it was part of a flow system I never attached. there are better ones I imagine. ask at MIS..! > 3) What kind of syringe do you need to load the carts? I use the 10cc syringes, and six of the "Lure Lock Blunt Needle 19 ga 1 1/2" Long" also from MIS: http://inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/accessory.html I use a separate one for each ink and then rinse them all out afterward with hot water. > 4) Is there a trick to changing chips, or do they just pop in and out? the chips pop in and out, though sometimes it takes a 2 or 3 reset attempts to get the printer to believe along with me..! > 5) Anything else non-obvious about doing this? all the refilling will cause you to go through many many cleaning cycles, thus getting your 2000P to its waste pad limit and requiring service. that's why I am on my second... since the first one was well beyond its warranty time, it would have cost more to service it than it was to purchased a refurbished one with another year's worth of service coverage. good luck! Thanks for that info. Now all I have to figure out is what ink I want to use. I believe there's a magic reset sequence for the waste ink counter, although I don't recall what it is. It's probably in the archives on the Epson2000P or EPSON_Printers list. Of course, you do actually have to clean some of the waste ink out. -- Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Paul mailto:pderocco@...

Tom, just fyi, you may want to try black only (BO) printing on the 2000P with Red River ultra pro high gloss papers. I've had quite good results and did not have to buy expensive inks (and all the other problems associated with that endeavor). May be worth a quick look before you head down that road.
