Storing MIS cartridges

Storing MIS cartridges

2004-02-10 by marthaabelson

I recently switched to BO printing with eboni ink on my 2200 but I
occasionally do color printing with the Epson Photo Black. I find
that if I leave the eboni cartridge out for a few days, it gets
pretty dried up (or at least thats what I think is happening). It
just took me 5 cleaning cycles to get an almost brand-new cartridge
working again and another time I ended up trashing a cartridge that
I believe was at least 1/2 full. Is this normal, or are there any
suggestions on storing the cartridge when not in use? Now I simply
lean it slightly sideways, chip side up against a box that I keep
near my printer. I recall reading something once about putting tape
over one of the holes but now I can't find that thread and I don't
remember the specifics. Thanks for your help!

Hi:

I put scotch tape over the bottom and top vent holes this does seem
to keep them from drying out. I have stored them over two weeks
without any problems. However.......they do leak so be careful. I
called MIS and they said there is not valve in the bottom holes to
prevent the leakage, but they literally sell rivets (which I have
yet to buy but can get in your local home depot) to stick in the
bottom holes. Anyway the scotch tape does seem to work for me but
again be aware that some ink will leak.

Joe

Joe:

I think the MIS rivets are like $.02 or .05 each or something dirt
cheap. I just ordered a lifetime supply of them for an extra dollar
with one ink order. I get no ink leakage at all using them.

I belive most of the new MIS carts have poppet valves though.

I agree they are cheap. I just thought it worth mentioning.

hmmmm.......makes me think that just wrapping them in saran wrap
would probably work also. I know none of this is a big problem.
However you seal the holes appears to work.

Guys,

The best way to store carts is to eat more broccoli. Huh!

The wide rubber bands used on produce is perfect for sealing carts.
