Important News re: InkjetMall and Cone Editions

2004-02-12 by Editor P.O.V. Image Service

First, to understand the relationship between InkJetMall and Cone
Editions, read the first paragraph at:
http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/our-mission.html

Then see case #04-10148 at:
http://www.vtb.uscourts.gov/calendar/030904_11_r.html

Although this is a Chapter 11 filing (which allows for
"reorganization"), if I was using Piezography B&W I might begin
researching alternatives, just to be safe..

While I've had my run-ins with Jon, it's kinda sad to see a pioneer of
monochrome inkjet printing biz in these straits.

ClearJet Fine Arts S (Liquid for Sprayers)

2004-02-12 by J Vee

I have tried most of the coatings mentioned on this group, rod, aerosols,
and finally using the touch up sprayer. I have had the very best success
with the gloss ClearJet Fine Arts for sprayers (Type S). It is a solvent
based spray and of course you need to take the usual health care
precautions. However, I am able to spray three ³heavy² glossy coats of this
stuff on and not see any buildup at all on Photorag, but they show good
abrasion resistance. Company says it is formulated to penetrate and
protect. The other sprays all dull the image or seem to lie on top of it.
I can¹t find any real test information in the usual places about the UV
protection of this coating though. Does anyone know of any objective tests
for this coating?

I would not only find an alternative but would seriously consider
not ordering anything unless you can be guaranteed that they will
not charge your credit card until the goods are literally on the
truck on their way to you.

Wow. On the other hand, Chapter 11 reorgs can sometimes be an OK
thing, if the business declaring bankruptcy continues to be operated
by the creditors AND if the creditors keep the people who actually
know the most about the business (i.e., Cone). The business could (I
said could) get an infusion of cash and be rejuvenated.

Now that's an interesting point b/c, based on my limited knowledge of
bankruptcy, you could be in a poor position vis-a-vis other creditors
who have earlier claims than you (if you don't receive your order).

(I'm not a bankruptcy lawyer, though, so please don't take this as
legal advice or even well-informed device)

I am not a bankruptcy lawyer either. I would still be cautious
however in turning over money to someone, company, whoever that is
filing for bankruptcy.

Re: Important News re: InkjetMall and Cone Editions - Stop Worrying

2004-02-12 by randyrancier

I wouldn't worry too much about ordering from them currently, "If"
you use a credit card; since credit card companies offer a level of
insurance when ordering mail order. If they charge your card and
you don't recieve your order, you simply call the credit card
company and dispute the charge. The credit card company will
usually go ahead and credit your account immediately and dispute the
charge with the mail order company. It is no big deal, I have done
it many times and have never had any problems getting the issue
resolved. Using a credit card is the only way I will pay for any
mail order item.

You certainly aren't the only one. I worked for a dealer that nearly had to
take Cone to court over 'unpleasant' business dealings. Apparently, there
were several others in the same boat.

He may be a pioneer, but I wouldn't touch him or his products with a ten
foot pole.

MIS on the other hand are great, honest people to deal with. They get my
business and respect.

I think a lot of people are rushing to judgement based on very little information. I don't
profess to have any inside scoop but I do know I just ordered AND RECEIVED ink from IJM
this very week. Also I'm not sure who, outside of E Topsham VT knows the specific
financial relationship between Cone Editions and IJM. So let's chill a bit until some more
info is made available (It keeps the blood pressure low :-)

I looked on their web page and they don't have test info. It looks like an
excellent product though. They have a dealer locator.

I do really like the product and have used it extensively. It makes me
nervous not to be able to find any tests on its archival usefullness though.
I don¹t really have room or facilities to set up a test, but maybe I will
try if no one knows of any studies. J Vee
