Protecting the back

2004-02-16 by colingruk

Hi,

When mounting and framing a print (for hanging) under glass, I need
to protect the back of the mount board from the environment by
placing a barrier between it and the hardboard or whatever. Will
aluminium/aluminum kichen foil do the trick? What are the other
options?

Thanks,

Colin

Colin,

Framers have always used brown paper glued to back of wood frames. I think
the best way is to use foam core or builder's sheet foam. It keeps the matt
from warping. We had a long discussion about this a couple months
ago. Something about photo eating worms :-)
