I'm about to transition my 1270 from VM inks to UT2. I'm wondering if the VM black is compatible with the UT2 'color' carts. If anyone has tried this, I'd appreciate hearing about the results. Thanks. Jim Zall

Jim, >I'm about to transition my 1270 from VM inks to UT2. I'm wondering if >the VM black is compatible with the UT2 'color' carts. ... I have not tried it, but I don't think there is a serious compatibility issue. It may through some curves off a little, but probably not significantly. The Eboni black has a better dmax on EEM and is much more lightfast. When you run out of VM K and if you switch to Eboni (recommended), rinse the pads before putting in Eboni to get the dyes off them. Paul - Is there a good description of the pad-rinsing procedure somewhere in the files? Thanks for all your generous and wonderful work. Stephen Petegorsky

I thought that the black in the VM carts *is* Eboni. MIS had a notice on their web site many months ago (can't find it now) that they were using Eboni in place of the previous black because it was so much better. I'll also second the request for instructions on pad-rinsing. Thanks for your help. Jim

Jim, You're probably right. If the VM inks are new, then the black probably is Eboni, which is all the same. Paul www.PaulRoark.com For UT2 information, curves, and settings see: http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/
