PK on matte papers and Colorburst RIP

PK on matte papers and Colorburst RIP

2004-03-03 by sandersm@aol.com

In my seemingly-endless search for a solution to making neutral prints on
matte and RC papers on a 7600, I read the web page for the new version 3.0 of the
Colorburst RIP, which has now been released in a "lite" (raster-only) version
at about half the cost of ImagePrint. ($395 for the 2200, $695 for the
7600.) While reading the page (http://www.colorburstrip.com/xphotolite.html) I
came across this claim:

"ColorBurst utilizes Total Ink Limit and Black Preservation
in pre-configured environments. The Black Preservation feature
allows ColorBurst to achieve a deep rich black by not limiting
the Black channel in relation to the Total Ink Limit. This feature
enables users to get a great black with Epson’s Photo Black
cartridge even on Matte and Fine Art papers."

Is anyone on this list using this RIP? Any thoughts about the validity of
this claim that the RIP will give good results with PK on matte papers? I've
read suggestions that Epson Ultrasmooth fine art paper takes PK ink well,
though I've not tried it myself. If so, and/or if Colorburst RIP will print well
to Ultrasmooth with PK, then that might be a good solution for those of us
seeking a flexible printing solution for matte and RC papers on the 7600/9600
platforms.

Thoughts?

I use it. Their tech guy said they'll make a profile for any paper you want. Then he said there's no point in making a grayscale profile for PK on any paper but Glossy or Luster as no one likes the results. So, what you've read(and printed) is contradicted by their phone-support people.

Colorburst makes nice grayscale prints on those papers. The centering on cut sheets is poor. Their response to that was 'no one uses cut sheets in a 7600 anyway'. Version 3 for Mac is supposed to be Rendezvous compatible. I haven't been able to get it to work.

Call 'em and ask them directly.
