BO on 2200 with new Epson profiles

BO on 2200 with new Epson profiles

2004-03-03 by edrudolpho

A poster at Dpreview.com was complaining about a magenta cast to his B&W prints
using the new Epson profiles. Can anyone verify that the new profiles actually permit
true BO printing?

thanks, Ed

Ed

You do not use a profile when doing BO printing. ICC profiles are used for
a colour managed workflow (be that colour or greyscale images). BO printing
uses a Same as Source workflow ie you deliver the printer a gray gamma 2.2
file (or whatever your workspace is). You are not tagging the file with a
specific printer/media ICC profile. The reason he is getting a magenta cast
is because of the age old problem of the Epson driver using colour inks
unsuccessfully to create greyscale. BO avoids this completely by only using
the one ink black and simply using the spacing of the dots to create
shades of grey.
