Clayton,

In my opinion, this is a great discription of the diffrence between EEM and
PhotoRag - hard to describe, but richness and depth are good words for
what's happening. I have not tried the Hawk Mt. papers, are they as heavy
as the PhotoRag 308? Do I understand you right that the Hawk Mt paper
Condor BW has a better Dmax than PhotoRag? Always learning something on this
list. Thanks.

Thanks, they are really pretty papers.

Yes, very similar (they have swatches available).

Well, that's not exactly what I said. What I said is the Condor BW
was the most neutral in color tone of the four papers (meaning it
looks more black than dark brown). It resembles selenium toned prints
on Oriental Seagull. The Merlin Smooth looks much like the original
Ilford MGII FB, which was my favorite silver paper (remember, all this
is from using Eboni ink with the BO technique - different inks may
give different results).

As for actual Dmax, I don't have a densitometer, but Paul Roark has
tested these papers and reported lower Dmax than PR. However, to my
eye they don't lack in Dmax. They are deep and rich. Gorgeous stuff.

Regards,
Clayton
