Epson LK replacement?

Epson LK replacement?

2004-04-30 by Steve Kale

If the Epson light black (and presumably the MIS equivalent ESC2200-4-LK or ESC7600-4-
LK: yes another confusing area at MIS) is very warm, is there another ink that could take its
place in the UC set? That is, a more neutral light black that would be more consistent with
Eboni and requiring less cooling. Presumably this other ink could just be reprofiled with
QTR for B&W and Eye-One for colour work along with the other inks in the ESC2200 set.
Or is the MIS LK already it?

Regards

Steve

The MIS LK is as warm as the Epson LK. It's hard to tell them apart
actually...

I wouldn't be too surprised if one of the UT-FSN inks were a close match
to the Epson LK in density. If you refill yourself you could buy a
bottle from this page:

Hi Daniel

I was just looking at the UT-HEX inks on this page:

http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/ut2200bh.html

Do I run into problems with my colour work if the new LK-position ink is too
far away from Epson UC LK? Presumably the Epson driver expects a particular
colour ink in that position and an Eye-One profile will only fix so much.

When it is released the UT7 LK is a cooled-down version of the warm MIS LK.

The LK ink certainly has a major impact on overall color hue, but I
don't know whether the Eye-One will be able to correct for it or not. I
guess it wouldn't cost much to try though. Do as Paul says and wait for
the UT7 LK ink, then you won't have to mess around with refills.

Thanks Daniel. I might give it a go once UT7 is available. I guess I can
do a gamut check while soft proofing with a colour profile made with the
Eye-One and the new light black ink set to see if I have whacked my colour
work way off. I am very unsure of myself in this area and since I have to
use my printer for both B&W and colour I am nervous about straying to far
from the expected ink colours.

Thanks Paul for the UT7 pointer.
