Large format scanner

2004-05-03 by gfp3jgr

Anyone with a recommendation for an extra large (11x17) scanner? I'm
comparing the Epson 1640XL SE (@$2500) with the Microtek Artixscan9800
XL (@$1100). On paper the Artixscan looks better for not only price but specs
also. I want to make sure that the light is even across the surface (for art
reproduction). Any experience out there?

At the risk of seeming somewhat self-serving: I use UMAX's
PowerLook 2100XL tabloid-format flatbed with transparency
adapter (which also covers 12x17"), and I've been quite happy
with it overall. And, I happen to have an identical unit, with tranny
adapter, which I'm preparing to put up for sale you-know-where
shortly, although it's possible for someone to talk me out of it
(hint, hint).
