2200 with PR 308gm paper

2200 with PR 308gm paper

2004-05-04 by neilsphoto

I bought some of the heavy PR paper and was printing last night in my 2200.
The first few prints went fine and then once again (second time using 308) the
printer refused to draw the paper down to print. Anyone had this with the
heavy PR? I only have this problem with the heavy thick PR.

The printer reports an error, no paper or a jam. If I look down inside while the
printer trys to find paper I can see the rollers or what grabs the paper isn't
even close, like it is pushed back aaaway from the paper. Finally I load some
thin just letter paper and it will grab that and print. Then I go to EEM and it will
work.

I had the printer set to accept the thin paper, letter or EEM. Later after dinner I
went back to 308 PR but I had the printer set to the envelope setting and I got
4 prints through fine.

So how do those that use the 308 PR in a 2200 have theirs set?

I'm thinking that whatever has tension to grab the paper gets pushed back by
pulling thick paper through the printer when the printer is looking for thin
paper, and that when I reinstall thin paper it "finds its way?" again.

I don't overload the printer with paper, maybe 6 sheets at a time. When in "I
can't load paper mode" the printer won't even grab a single sheet if that is all
that is loaded.

Is the envelope setting the trick? BTW I noticed in the 2200 manual that OS X
and single sheet back loading aren't compatable. I never tried rear loading
one sheet at a time so I don't know. Maybe there is a patch at the Epson site
now that OS X and teh 2200 have been out for a while.

Thanks

Neil

You should be using the rear manual feeder. Move the paper lever all the
way down. Feed ONE sheet of HPR in from the back, below the auto feeder.
Push in until it is about 1/2 cm in front of the rollers looking down
through the lid (with the Epson logo) and align on right edge (looking from
front). The paper light will be blinking rapidly. Lift the paper lever up
to the envelope sign (not to the paper sign). Press the paper button once
and the printer will align everything. Go ahead and print. No patch etc is
needed for OS-X.

I had the same problem. It's as if the printer decides "I've had
enough of this abuse" and refuses to grab the paper any more. It
really scared me, I thought I'd broken it. I'm actually relieved to
hear your report. I'm guessing it must be a built in protection of
some sort.

Now I use the rear feeder for the heavy paper. At first it was a bit
of a hassle but I quickly worked out a technique. It has to be done
one at a time, but I was already doing that with the heavy cotton
papers even with the top loader (because I brush and Dust-Off each
sheet). So it's working very well and I'm more at ease about not
abusing the paper feed mechanism.

Regards,
Clayton
