Epson Pro Glossy - other brand?

Epson Pro Glossy - other brand?

2004-05-13 by Tim Atherton

Epson Professional Glossy (aka Glossy Paper Photo Weight) has been
apparently discontinued by Epson.

This was originally designated as a proofing paper (for the 5500?)

It is a medium gloss - with the look of air dried FB photo paper - it prints
very nicely with Ultrachromes - especially using IP for B&W (minimal
bronzing and a photo paper look)

Does anyone know if it is sold under another name - perhaps by the actual
manufacturer...? Preferably in sheet form

thanks

tim

Hi Tim,

That's surprising, in Europe GPPW was billed as providing the widest
colour gamut with the 2100 and is one of the papers included in the
sample print and media packs that comes with the printer. Did you
hear this from Epson?

are you sure you are talking about the same paper (epsons highly confusing
naming "conventions" and all...).

Glossy Paper Photo Weight is only available in rolls in the US and is known
as Professional Glossy in the one sheet size it comes in (13x19).

It has a sort of smooth gloss surface (not high gloss or pearl/lustre) and
the backing is an extremely creamy/yellowish off white that marks with
fingerprints whenever you touch it. In paper packs it comes with an equal
number of pink plain paper separator sheets.

Two major dealers have told me Epson has announced is discontinuation. (I
vaguely remember seeing the actual release from Epson)

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of some confusion here, but it
does sound like similar stuff. "Our" GPPW is pretty glossy, but not a
full gloss. It's definitely not a pearl type paper like Premium Semi-
Gloss either. I haven't heard of it in rolls over here, but the paper
packs I've had didn't have the separator sheets. I haven't got any of
it to hand, and I can't remember too much about the backing. I like
it much better than the semi-gloss though, as it's much less prone to
bronzing.
