Hi Tom,

It's not certain I'm going to try this approach, but if I do then I'll be sure
to share my experiences. I know how you feel with the "fish out of water"
syndrome when it comes to Linux/Unix. I'm still more at home in Windows but
I've been doing enough work in Unix environments (including Linux) over the
past three years that I've at least got past the totally clueless phase. I
doubt there will ever come a day when I'm fully comfortable editing text files
in vi though ;o)

Anyway, I've wandered off topic!

Mike,

I tried going the Linux/QTR route and got real close but in the end
had to put it aside when I couldn't get the 1280 profiles to load. I
installed Redhat 9 on a dual boot system with XP Home. That worked
just fine but Linux is so different from Windows. I struggled with
the commands used to do just about everything. Roy was very helpful
but I must have loaded something wrong or didn't load something I
should have. Like I said the desktop portion of Redhat is great but
after re-installing it three times to get QTR up I quit. Maybe I
should tackle it again. I'd like to hear about your experience with
it. I'd also like to see a Windows version of QTR.

Good luck!

Tom

I had QTR working in VMware for a period of time. I managed to do
something to the installation to break it again, but when it worked it
was much more practical than a dual boot system since you could stay in
Windows and print directly from Photoshop over the virtual network.

I had consistent problems with microbanding in some of the ink channels
that I was unable to remove, so I haven't been highly motivated to
continue work with QTR, but that must be something with my printer,
because I've never heard of anyone else with the same problems.

If you want I could try to fix the installation again and send you the
VMware disk image.

Daniel,

Staying in Windows when using QTR would be great. Shutting Windows
down and then opening Linux to print would have been time consuming
so I'd be interested looking at your method. I'm not familiar with
VMware but will investigate. Thanks for the offer.

Beautiful images on your site by the way.

Tom
