Jim unfortunately (if you have purchased already) that $20 was removed at purchase from Office Depot with a coupon number which I gratefully got from this list.

I pulled the Epson site $20 rebate coupon off their site and got the
link posted here for the $50 off from Office Depot printed out, but in
following the threads I hear of an additional $20 off but can't find
it described clearly by anybody or a link posted. Where is it? Is it
  Office Depot or Epson??

I bought the printer at a local store...

I already got my $14.23 C84 printer I ordered from Office Depot a
couple of days ago, just took a couple of days to get. The other $20
comes from entering a coupon code for online purchases which we got
the code from earlier postings on this subject, which I believe began
on Monday.

Does anybody know which USB cable the C84 takes, i.e. USB to USB or
USB to something else? I haven't had a chance to open the box!

I just opened mine. I guess the email from Officedepot.com will serve as
the "invoice" for the rebates. Hope so, cause I didn't print the purchase
screen. Our office printer was barely functional at that time. :)

Anyway, the USB cable is described in the manual as a USB "AB" cable.
It also can accept a parallel cable if you are in the world of Windows.

Is USB (1.1 on my Win 98 PC) much faster than parallel? Cause I already
have a parallel cable I can use.

Re: [Digital BW] C84 $50+$20...but where's the other $20?/OT

2004-06-11 by Ara

Here's my coupon story of the day: I went like any normal person on
this list, through the OD website to order this "thing", after so
much praising around here.

Following the steps for purchase I tried to apply online the coupon
for the $20 rebate over $75. Returned an error stating that the
"amount of purchase is not over $75" even if evidently it is! Ok,
then I tried to do a "store pick-up" since it's in my way this
weekend, and got a "out-of-stock" message. Ok, I went back to my
cart, which at this point is... "empty"!! Totally hilarious!
Then I tried to contact OD online through their "live chat" but that
is "dead" on arrival at least in my 3 attempts with 3 latest version
browsers, Java enabled and during their stated online chat hours!
At last I sent them an email message re. these issues... no purchase
so far!!
... so, conclusion, huge company, crappy website, no business from me
to you! [unless I get this item for free :)]

Ara G.

PS - and since I'm in venting mode, one issue with this group: is it
possible to remove the permanent "rules" attachment from these posts
such as we save some storage space? I know it's possible, since I run
a couple of these groups as admin myself and really don't see any
purpose for this extra file size on every message! This message can
be programmed to be sent out on a weekly or monthly basis, not with
every single message posted! Please! Not only loads everybodys' mail
boxes, but reduces the amount of useful info that can be stored in
this allocated group space by Yahoo!

Re the USB question below, yes, the normal cables are A>B where A is
the connector to the PC, B is a smaller squarish plug for the
printer. "A"s can be female or male types. And yes, USB 1.1 is faster
than the parallel port on W98 or other systems.

Sorry about the rant above...

OT How to Buy Epson C84 Re: C84 $50+$20+$20

2004-06-11 by Angela Silva

On other lists, various ways of buying the Office Depot Epson C84 printer
have been described. FWIW, good luck. At the most, up to $90 off retail price.

1. buying online - $20 off immediately through OD online discount, Referral
ID/Coupon code: 32451881. Unfortunately, often out of stock response. Offer
good through 6/30/04. Free shipping with orders over $75.
2. go to store - go to customer service desk where you can order online - try to
buy it and if out of stock, ask store manager nicely if they will honor the online
discount and you buy it off their shelf. I was able to order online, but I had
also spoken to my local store and they would have done this for me.
3. get the store to print out copies of their OD $50 rebate off any photo or all-
in-one printer. Various store managers have disputed this. It will be honored,
according to a phone call I made to the Express Rebate center. Officially the
Epson C84 is eligible for the $50 rebate. The number to the Express Rebate
Center is 1-800-962-4664 if you would like to varify the info I have just given
you. You will need the offer number OD1600009 and the SKU # 158815 to
give them. They've gotten lots of calls on this. Include this info when filling
out the form. Offer good through 6/19/04.
4. also get the Epson rebate for $20 to fill and submit - offer good through 9/
30/04. Rebate form available on the Epson website.

In California, with sales tax, it'll cost me $14 or so. In Oregon, with no sales
tax, an even better bargain. Hope this works out for you, but please, take this
as far as you can. Buyer Beware, read all the fine print. I'm sorry but I'll be
leaving for out of town and won't/can't answer any questions. This newb
appreciates all the great info learned on this list.

To be fair to OD, I don't know how this stuff gets onto the edealinfo.com
website. Maybe OD has nothing to do with it, and there are people whose
hobby is spotting and posting "mistakes".
I have checked into deals shown there in the past, and upon reading the
rebate fine print, they were listing for example a rebate that was only
good in-store. For instance, they are still showing the HP7260 deal, and
as someone pointed out, we can't even find it at OD's site.

I don't know if OD sometimes just honors these "deals" as best it can
rather than aggravate the customer, or what.

It's also funny that edealinfo has put "***Deal VERIFIED***" on the
headline for this particular deal.
See: http://www.edealinfo.com/DDCateg/printers.shtml#040612D8

There must be more folks on this list than those who've spoken up who've
been trying to get this deal, or else it only takes a few folks' questions
to get things in an uproar at OD or edealinfo.
Obviously the deal worked for a while. I thought this was a bargain some
of you might want, and in fact some did. It's too bad that getting the
deal is like going through a lottery draw. It seems to be a case of strike
while the iron is hot.

They show good deals on the HP 7660 and 7960 today.

Don, I'm talking only about the $20 coupon that is supossedly
available online>

Here is how this works: you select the item, click on checkout,
there's a box where you enter the coupon number 32451881, checkout>
it appears on the screen under the item in the shopping cart, you can
click on "More" for information and this returns this message "The
following coupon has been verified and added to your cart: $20 OFF
PURCHASES OF $75 OR MO
If you need to add items to validate your coupon you may enter them
below or continue shopping."
But if you click on "Validate" this coupon you get this message: "
Attention!
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
(CD06) The coupon 032451881, requires an order total of at least
75.00,. At this time the order total is .00. This may be the result
of certain product exclusions. Please review the promotion and
disclaimer for complete explanation on what the intent of the coupon
032451881, is. If necessary, add more products and try again. Thank
you. "

They either have a problem with their website, or simply don't want
to honor this coupon after all this hoopla!

The other stuff... just "normal" website quirks when the system is
not well designed.

The additional coupons/rebates are:
- a mail-in $20 from Epson valid through Sept.04
- a mail-in $50 from OD for purchases over $75 before the discount,
which actually just checking their rebate page:
http://rebates.teg-online.com/officedepot/form_search.asp?odserver=www.officedepot.com

doesn't show anymore on their site!!! :)

So be aware, there's no more $50 coupon, and apparently the $20
online coupon!

...and you are absolutely correct Sir! I must've searched under a
different category.

So, the deal, if there's still a deal, comes to $70 off, still not
too bad!

Thanks for the correction Don, and sorry for the rest of you for

Well, I ended up at $50 + $20 + $10 and a bit of my time.

I just picked one up at the Hayward, CA store. Started at $97, got
two rebate receipts printed when I purchased it ($20 and $50), and a
$10 store card for use in a future purchase (part of a special listed
in the flier in the store).

Cheap enough for me....
