ut2 on epson 1280 has problem at 2880dpi

I'm using ut2 inks on an epson 1280 printer using Epson Premium SemiGloss, PhotoBlack ink. This works fine at 1440dpi but when I go 2880 dpi the image gets a lot darker and I get unacceptable horizontal striations in the texture of the ink. Ideas?
