"Photoshop in Black and White" - by Jim Rich and Sandy Bozeh
Some what dated, I think it stopped at around PS 5 or 6, but still the
basics
remain the same in most cases.

"Adobe Photoshop CS for Photographers" by Martin Evening Focal Press
is by far the best PS book geared toward photographers. Very well
written.

Photoshop book for B&W (was Re: [Digital BW] Digest Number 2383)

2004-07-25 by Sam McCandless

After Sandy Bozeh moved on, Jim Rich alone updated and re-published
their "Photoshop in Black and White" (Peach Pit Press) as:

"The Photoshop Grayscale Book: An Illustrated Guide for Reproducing &
Retouching Grayscale Images Using Adobe Photoshop 5.0.2 or 5.5"
(2000, ISBN 0-9647627-3-0, $25)

so looking for a copy of it is also a possibility.
