Digital BW, The Print

I've read as many postings as are available regarding the best 
papers to use with my printer for B&W work.  I have to admit, it's a 
little confusing, partly due to the wide range of products available 
and partly due to non-standard references to the paper names.  So 
here is my question.  If I want archival-type prints, what are the 
best papers (glossy or matte)?  If I am willing to live with less-
than-archival quality, what are my best choices?  Sorry for the 
bother, but it is too easy to purchase the wrong supplies.  TIA.
